The Crime Scene

In the early morning hours of May 8, 1981, Barbara L. Winn died in front of her three children from a gunshot wound to her chest.  The relationship Barbara had with her boyfriend, Aaron Foster, had become increasingly violent so, on the evening of May 7, 1981, she had told him that she no longer wanted a relationship with him, and instructed him to move out of her Maplewood, Minnesota town home.  Two of her children were awake in their beds, when she arrived at home and discovered that Foster was there waiting for her.  Her children heard a loud fight, and a gunshot.  They ran to Barbara's room, as Aaron Foster ran out of it.  They found their mother standing in a corner with a gunshot wound in her chest.  She died before their eyes.

When questioned by the police, Foster told them that he was downstairs packing his belongings in to his car when he "heard a gunshot".  He claims he then ran upstairs to see what had happened and that Barbara stated to him, "I shot myself...get rid of the gun".  He was never charged with the murder of Barbara.  Foster is currently a "civilian" employee of the Saint Paul, Minnesota Police Department, and has a permit to carry a firearm.  This case has recently been re-opened for the third time and according to current news reports, four investigators from five different agencies have concluded that there is "probable cause to believe" that Aaron Foster is responsible for her death.
